OK, i thought my problem had been fixed when I took my IPOD USB out yesterday, but I keep getting the BSOD. It always happens when Vista automatically loads the control panel. Is there any way of not having it load when you turn on the PC?? And, can I get XP back?? I don't care if I lose any files. I just want the software that actualy works back.

BSOD
Do you have an XP cd, recovery cd's, or a hidden recovery partition? If you have an XP cd, boot the computer with it and install XP.

I have an XP CD, but when I go to install it, it says there is no proior knowledge of a previous Windows OS and asks for a Windows 2000, 98, or 95 CD, which I do not have. So, I am basicially screwed, mainly because I didn't install it on a partition, something I did have.

Ok, you have an XP Pro Upgrade edition cd. Do you have a cd from an earlier edition of Windows? If not, can you borrow one? It cannot be a recovery cd.

Unfortunately, it was an upgrade from Windows ME from my moms PC, so no, I don't. I have another question. How can I get the control panel from not launching every time the PC boots automatically. I see where I can uncheck the option, but my PC goes to the BSoD before I can enact it. Any clues??

If you can find/borrow an XP CD from an earlier version, then you can, as Colin says use this XP upgrade CD to do a repair install of the XP that is on the HD in that partition I would think. It's sure worth a try. This way you save your original XP and get on with your life.

This situation with the Vista upgrade should not be different from the guidelines of Chapter 28 and this general fix XP guideline below although with the Vista code in the way it might be. I carefully read the long previous thread:
Resources for troubleshooting startup problems in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308041&Product=winxp
At no time were any of those posters saying you were stupid, ect. ect. ect. but you sure need to learn to give pertinent information up front. From your vocabularly you are old enough and smart enough to start doing that. Always ID the software (an XP Upgrade CD--don't make the people trying to help you guess with 6-8 posts as they had to on that prev thread and now this one that what you're holding in your hand is a retail XP upgrade CD (apparently). The CD whether from MSFT or OEM has plenty of info on it to tell what it is.
Always say up front in the first paragraph: I have an retail upgrade XP CD and I upgraded this XP with a Vista Beta 2 I got in the mail, ect.

Any cd from Win95 forward would work. You only need one for about a minute. XP setup just needs to confirm that you have such a cd in the drive and then you won't need it any more once Setup resumes. Ask around, especially if you have a computer repair shop in your neighborhood. Technicians hang on to things like for just this reason.

OK. We installed MS Office 2003 SBE in MS Vista Home Prem. 32-bit edition. Things seem to work OK, however, whenever we open Outlook the Microsoft End User License agreement keeps popping up, and this is EVERY time we open the program without fail. It asks if we want to accept or decline, we click accept and it goes away. Like I said, though, it will come back whenever we open the stinking program again. I have done all the online updates for Office 2003 and that made no difference, I have done the "detect and repair" option which also has not helped. Any of you have any ideas? Thanks for your time.

That's easy to do in Vista, too. Passing ntp queries is safe since you contact a known server. For this to be insecure there'd A) have to be a useable exploit allowing code executuion against the ntp service and B) a way for the attacker to compromise your routing tables to send traffic to his server or a way for the attacker to compromise the remote server itself.
If the original poster really can't pass these queries and doesn't want to bother with Vista as a time server (it's a pain) then s simple Linux setup with an interface on the internet and an interface on the lan could function as the local time server. You could even install a radio clock and dispense with the internet entirely.
Does anyone know how do do a Complete PC Restore in an OEM version of Vista Ultimate ? OEM licenses does not come with the Vista installations disk which I understand is needed to Boot the PC and get to the Windows Recovery Enviroment. The standard Recovery disk that is created with and OEM version only allows booting up and restoring to a factory set. Is there any way that I can create a bootable DVD that brings me to the Windows Recovery Enviroment so I can do a Complete PC Restore.
Thanks -- Gregory Sebastian
